Michael and Pat Cope opened The Galeria de Todos Santos in 1994. They were the first
gallery in Southern Baja to represent a group of artists that worked in different mediums.
The historical area of Todos Santos was perfect for the venture and so was the timing. When asked about starting the gallery Michael said “It took a while to find artists that were really artists. I wanted painters and sculptors whose lives were about their art and the process of doing it. I also wanted to make sure we represented as many Mexican artists as American.”
Upon entering The Galeria de Todos Santos you know immediately that it won’t be boring. You are surrounded by landscapes, seascapes, realism and abstract paintings as well as plein aire and impressionism to mention a few. Sculptures of wood, marble and resin are both inside and outside.
Michael and Erick Ochoa’s studio is on the premises and they welcome “art lovers” to stop in and visit anytime. “I love it when people are interested in painting and get involved in the process. For people who don’t paint or sculpt it can be a treat to watch how it is done and find out what the inspiration was.” says Michael.
